7th August - Togura Fireworks Festival

I got to school early today to make up for getting lost and being late last week.....not that anyone would know as no other teachers came in until lunch time! I spent the day looking over lesson plans and current text books.

Rita came to the school to meet me at 4pm and we went to a fireworks festival in Togura. Togura was about 30mins train journey from Nagano and we met up with some former students from Nishiko who are now at uni`s around Japan.
The fireworks were really special. It took place in a valley next to a lake and because we were in a valley surrounded by mountains when the fireworks went off they echoed even louder around the mountains. Ofcourse there was lots of food and drink stands. We had some kind of pancake/omlette filled with vegetables for dinner.
Rita introduced to her Japanese friend Mayumi. Mayumi has lived in London and likes British music and she gave me fliers to gigs that are on in Tokyo, including The Zutons, The Futureheads, and Daft Punk. Hopefully will be going to see The Zutons in October with Rich (from Ueada). I was so happy that I found some info on music as I was starting to miss the scene in London already.

This was the last night that I would see Rita before she left Japan and the JET program to head back to England. Another sad goodbye. Rita has been really helpful in helping me out since I arrived and left the apartment really nice for me to move into. She also helped to manage my expectations of what to get out of my time in Japan.
