Monday 4th Sept....Back to school...

Jay at 'World Hits'

Today my schedule was pretty packed. I had a lesson with 3rd graders where I asked them to discuss 'do you think the Olympics is a good thing or a bad thing for a city/country?'......as the winter Olympics were in Nagano and London has just won the 2012 bid I thought it would be quite topical for them. Also in Nagano the prefecture is in a lot of debt after hosting the Olympics and there is also a big debate about the environmental impact it had.....so they came up with some really good answers.

I taught a listening lesson with first graders who are learning directions.....its so funny hearing them copy how I pronounce certain words....these students will fit right in back in Raunds!
At lunch time on Mondays Jay and I host 'World Hits' on the school radio...basically just chat rubbish in English and play any songs that we want.

Period 5 I helped to mark Martin Luther King speeches that the students have been working on...I was very impressed with their speaking and memory abilities....and standing in front of the class, reciting MLK and being video recorded....they did really well.

Monday night was enkai - my welcome party from work. We went to a Japanese style restaurant in Nagano called Rinsen. It was really nice food (and champagne cocktails) and I managed to get away with eating only those things that were cooked! I just can't get my head around eating raw meat and fish yet!
