Saturday we drove from Komoro to Mt Asama via the skyline route which gave us views of all the surrounding mountains and good view points for the mountain. Mt Asama is an active volcano that last erupted 10 years ago.
We stopped at.............to hike around the falls before heading to Onioshidashi which is a molten lava national park at the bottom of the mountain.
Having spent most of the day with nature we decided to head to Jusco in Saku for some retail therapy.
Back at the hotel Inga had her first onsen experience (Ronnie was a bit less enthusiastic about getting naked with the locals and opted to stay in the room!), it was all going smoothly until when in the onsen we realised we had forgot to bring towels with us.....I told Inga not to worry Id go and sort it out whilst she stayed in the onsen......and Im not going to tell you what I did next!!!
Miki and her husband picked us up to take us for dinner that night to a local izakiya where we had yakitori and yakiniku (a plate of sashimi was brought out but we left it to Miki's husband to eat!). We were also served with hot and cold sake which also went down well.
The next day we went to the old shopping street in Karuizawa and then to the new retail outlets - lots of lovely things but just window shopping for me :-(
We sampled Japanese fast food for dinner in the form of Mos Burger.
