As it is Saturday I have no school and decide to cycle around Nagano to get my bearings. 4 hours later (with a few shop stops) my legs are getting shakey and as I catch a glimpse of my self... my red nose and cheeks indicate I might have had a bit too much sun!
I arranged to meet Madeleine (from Scotland) and Matt (from New Zealand) at Nagano station to go and watch Binzuru.....a street festival celebrating a god (not sure which one) with dancing and drinking (a bit like Notting Hill Carnival). There were different groups of dancers going round the city until 1am, all doing a very similar dance, banging wooden spoons, jumping and chanting. despite the repetitive moves I was amazed by the continual enthusiasm shown by the Japanese....maybe it was the beru breaks every 20 minutes that was keeping their spirits high!
What the festival really achieves is getting everyone in the city out in the streets to have fun, drink and share the evening together.
I was suprised to see a team of dancers from Transport for London though!
