New life in Tokyo

I have been in Tokyo for 1 month now, living in Shin-Egota and working in Azabu-Juban.
I received lots of lovely welcome gifts when I moved to my new home, one of the most surprisingly was this one from Flashy......

Although I'm still in Japan my life is so different now. Already I have met so many nice people and made good friends in my office. It has been great having Kiren here too and living so close by means we have been able to hang out even though we now both have 'real' jobs and are really busy with work!

In the last few weeks here I have just been settling in both with Tokyo and my job so no major events yet.

Me, Kiren and Nick went to the US Embassy day with Kirens friends from work. It was sooo hot that day but with the free beer, lots of American food (the delicacy that is burgers and hot dogs), bands and taiko drummers we had a really nice day.

Last weekend I hung out with Andy, who also used to live in Nagano prefecture and has recently moved to Tokyo. We spent the afternoon checking out the summer sales and Yoyogi Park before I went to have dinner with Kudo in Shibuya.

This weekend was the first time me and Kiren had time to explore new parts of the city together and went to Shimokitazawa. It's cool there, an old hippy area that is like Portabello in London - both of us felt like we had left Japan! We checked out the back streets of Harajuku later that we had never ventured before and found a few really nice places to eat and art houses. The day made me feel really calm, like I had come home. The more I find my feet in Tokyo the more I want to stay.

On Tuesday Joan will be visiting me from Morocco for 6 days. The last time we saw each other was my 21st birthday (I can't remember much of that!) after living in Holland together so it will be a nice reunion.
